Next week, the children will be tested on all the year 3/4 words and year 5/6 words from the national curriculum. This is a huge number of words, so we will complete the assessment over two days next week (Wednesday and Thursday). This is because we are out at the High School all day on Monday and Friday.
Below are two documents with these words on. Please pick ten words from these lists that your child is not confident with, and practise these a little each day.

World Book Day – 08. 03. 2018
Today the class have been taking part in a range of activities to celebrate World Book Day. They have been taking part in a word hunt, creating their own word hunts and have been sharing their favourite books with their reading buddies in year 3.
Modal Verb Raps – 28. 11. 2017
Last week during our S.P.A.G lesson, the class worked in small groups to create a rap to help them recall modal verbs. As the rest of the class listened, the children tried to correctly count how many modal verbs were in each rap song. How many modal verbs can you count? Videos of each performance are posted below.
Books - 28. 11. 2017
During our guided reading sessions, we often read extracts from well-known books. Many of the children have expressed that they have enjoyed the extracts so much, they would like to continue reading these books at home. Below is the list of books that we have used in class:
Read Theory
I have discovered a free resource online that helps children to improve their reading comprehension skills. Readtheory.org is a website that requires children to read short extracts covering a range of texts, then asks them questions on what they have read. The questions are multiple choice, and if a question is answered incorrectly, it will explain what the correct answer was and why. It will also make the next question easier, adapting to the needs of the child.
There is only one downfall to this website – it’s American! Which means some of the spellings are incorrect. Feel free to encourage your child to find these mistakes, and ask them to tell you the correct spelling we use in the U.K.
Click the link below to log on. Your username will be ‘EB’ followed by your last name. All children have the same password of eastbergholt5.

Duxford Trip – 18. 10. 2017
Yesterday, Year 5 and 6 jumped on the coach and went on a day trip to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford. The children were thoroughly engaged, relishing the opportunity to see an impressive range of transport used on air, sea and land during previous wars. We were fortunate enough to speak to John, who was able to retell memories from his past recalling when he was a young boy living the London during World War Two. He told the children stories from his evacuation to a Cambridgeshire village, as well as showing us his Mickey Mouse gas mask. Thank you to all the parent volunteers who gave up their time to support us, and to Mrs Baker for organising the trip. A great time was had by all.
Music – 28. 09. 2017
Every Thursday morning, the children are taught by Mr Gerrie. These weekly music lessons focus on teaching the children how to play the glockenspiel. This is a fantastic opportunity for them to be taught by a music specialist, which will continue throughout all of year 5. Watch the video below to see us in one of our lessons.
English – 22. 09. 2017
Over the past two days we have been researching about the famous war leader Winston Churchill. To help us learn lots of facts, the class was split into two teams and challenged to remember as much information about him as possible! Every person from each team was given a fact card. Each team was given ten minutes, where every person had to teach their fact to all the people in the team, and vice versa. After this, the fact cards were taken away and we took part in a fact relay.
Science - 12. 09. 2017
This week in Science we have started our new topic, light. We have already learnt that light is an energy that travels in a straight line. After discussing this, we learnt how rays of light reflect from objects into our eyes to enable us to see. We have been given the task to plan a short, educational video to explain to younger children how light enables us to see. Finished videos will be posted to the class page once they are complete.
