BRITISH VALUES
At East Bergholt Primary School, we uphold British Values throughout our school curriculum and within our ethos, ensuring that pupils are fully prepared for life in modern Britain. As Lord Nash states, "We want every school to promote the basic British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance for those of different faiths and beliefs."
Our Christian Values are closely linked to these British Values, creating a supportive environment where pupils develop as well-rounded individuals. Here's how we connect them:
- Democracy is linked to the Christian value of Respect, encouraging pupils to listen to and value the opinions of others
- Rule of Law aligns with Justice and Trust, emphasising the importance of fairness, rules, and responsibility
- Tolerance connects to Generosity, Service, and Truthfulness, promoting understanding, honesty, and kindness to all
- Individual Liberty is supported by Courage and Perseverance, inspiring pupils to make their own choices while embracing challenges
- Mutual Respect is reflected in Compassion, Forgiveness, and Thankfulness, fostering empathy, reconciliation, and gratitude.
By embedding these values in all aspects of school life, we aim to ensure that pupils treat others with respect, contribute positively to society, and grow as confident, compassionate citizens.
The following document provides more detail on how we achieve this in our school.
