Welcome to Year One - Badger Class
Mrs Smith
Welcome to year one's class page. In year one, we love to learn by exploring and investigating both the indoor and outdoor environment. We are always up for a challenge and most of all, we always have lots of fun! This year we will be learning to work independently in a positive and safe learning environment. Our classroom is always a happy place, where myself and the year one team will be supporting the children to aim high and to be the best that they can be. On this page we will keep you updated with all of our current learning, so you can see what we have been up to.

We had lots of fun on Red Nose Day!! Well done Year 1, you all look great! :)
We had lots of fun dressing up as our favourite book characters and reading our favourite stories!
This half term we have been learning about different drawing techniques. Today, we put everything that we have learnt over the past few weeks, into creating our final pieces. We used Art pencils, wax crayons and felt tip pens as different media types to help us create our own self-portraits.
Today, we enjoyed using the maps to locate different places from around the world and to carry out some research about different countries.
In English, we have been looking at traditional tales. This week we read the story of 'The Three Little Pigs' and today, we had great fun acting out the story with our peers! Here we are in action! :)
In Art, we have been learning about creating lines of different thicknesses. We started off by looking at how to create thick and thin lines and then we put this into practise, by using a range of different materials. As a class, we worked together to create some very colourful collaborative pieces of art work. Well done everyone!
We were very excited to be presented with our 'Mini Marathon' certificates and badges today. Well done everyone, a fantastic achievement!
Today we enjoyed using the magnets to find out, which materials were magnetic. We started off by making our predictions about the different materials and then we carried we out our experiment. As we tested each material, we recorded our findings.
We enjoyed taking part in a cross country running challenge. Everyone did amazingly well and tried their best! Here we are in action!
We enjoyed going on our first school trip today to Firstsite. We enjoyed exploring the art gallery and looking at the wide variety of different types of artwork. After this, we then had the opportunity to work with an artist, who helped us create our own pieces of collaborative artwork. Everyone had a great time and we especially enjoyed, going on the bus and having our pack lunches!
Today saw us complete our mini marathon! We have really enjoyed taking part in this and especially loved crossing the finish line today! Well done everyone for taking part and running 2.6 miles over the last few weeks. What a fantastic achievement year one! Great efforts from everybody and lots of smiles and cheering as we completed the challenge today.
Today we enjoyed exploring our fantastic School grounds on our Autumn walk. We went on a walk to help give us some ideas and inspiration for our Autumn poems. During our walk, we used our senses to help us think about all the different things that surround us at this time of year. Great work everyone!
This week we used a programme on the tablets called '2 paint a picture'. We carefully selected the colours and brush size we needed, in order to create a picture of our family. Everyone concentrated and worked really hard to create these fantastic pictures.
We have been talking to the children about the London Marathon and Mrs Parton kindly brought in her marathon medals for us to look at. Our challenge is to run a few miles over the next few weeks and take part, in our own mini London Marathon. We have also been exploring various running activities and today we had fun doing a relay. Well done everyone, you are all fantastic runners!
In PE, we have enjoyed playing lots of different games which involve us working together as a team. Our challenge today, was to travel in different ways to collect a coloured beanbag and then place it into the matching coloured hoop. The first team with all the beanbags placed inside the hoop was the winner. We all really enjoyed this game, so we played it a few times and each time we got quicker and quicker! Great team work everyone!
In Maths we have been busy using a wide range of different mathematical resources, to represent numbers in different ways. Here is a snapshot of some of the activities we explored.
In English we have been learning about sentences and sentence structure. Today we had lots of fun creating our own silly sentences with a friend.
We have had a busy first week in year one and took advantage, of the sunny weather to do some outdoor learning. We have had lots of fun exploring our new classroom and learning in lots of different ways.
