East Bergholt CEVC Primary School
'I have come that they might have life, and have it to the full' John 10:10
What is a School Council?
East Bergholt Primary School has a School Council which provides a forum for pupil voice. The council meets every two weeks.
The School Council is all about:
How do you get elected?
Each class across the school elects one pupil to be on the School Council. School Council members are elected annually by the other children in their class. In order to be considered for election, pupils have to make a two minute presentation to their class and explain why they think they would be a good representative for their classmates.
What does the School Council do?
The pupils act as representatives for their classmates and discuss school issues with Mrs Collins and Mrs Felgate on a Wednesday (every other week) during assembly time. The council helps to make decisions about how the school is run and takes on projects that support pupil’s learning and development, such as organising charity events, representing the school at outside events or ensuring the school is environmentally friendly.
Members of the school council are responsible for carrying out the ideas that have been agreed upon.
The School Council’s job is to involve everyone, not do everything. It needs to get everyone:
Class Councils
The School Council representatives report back to their classes after each meeting in a Class Council.
During a Class Council meeting all pupils have the opportunity to raise issues, share ideas and take part in discussions that involve all of their classmates. The class then vote for two important things to take to the School Council to be discussed. This ensures that as many pupil voices as possible are heard.
What will staff do for the School Council?
Mrs Collins and Mrs Felgate and all school staff will make sure that meetings happen when they are supposed to. Staff will also support pupils to run meetings and the Headteacher will answer all of the school council questions within one week.
