    British Values at East Bergholt CEVC Primary School

    At East Bergholt CEVC Primary School, we are committed to promoting the fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

    These values are deeply embedded within our school life and are lived out through our relationships, our curriculum and our collective worship.

    ✝️ Our Christian vision and values

    Our approach to British Values is rooted in our Christian vision, where every child is valued as a unique individual made in the image of God and encouraged to flourish.

    Our core values of perseverance, courage, trust, truthfulness, generosity, compassion, forgiveness, service, respect, justice and thankfulness underpin everything we do.

    We make meaningful connections between British Values and our Christian values:

    • Democracy reflects respect and service, as we listen to one another and value every voice.

    • The rule of law reflects justice and trust, helping children understand fairness and responsibility.

    • Individual liberty reflects courage and perseverance, supporting children to make thoughtful choices.

    • Mutual respect reflects compassion, forgiveness and thankfulness, guiding how we treat one another.

    • Tolerance reflects generosity, truthfulness and service, encouraging understanding of others.

    Through this, we nurture a caring and inclusive community where all can flourish.

    British Values are not taught in isolation. They are part of everyday life at our school and are developed through:

    We encourage pupils to understand the importance of having a voice and listening to others.

    This is developed through:

    • Opportunities for pupils to share their ideas and opinions in class

    • Pupil voice and leadership opportunities where children can represent others

    • Encouraging respectful discussion and thoughtful debate

    • Involvement in decision-making within the classroom and wider school life

    Children learn that everyone’s voice is important and that working together helps us make fair decisions.

    ⚖️ The Rule of Law

    We support pupils to understand the importance of rules in keeping everyone safe and helping our community to flourish.

    This is developed through:

    • Clear and consistent expectations that help create a safe and happy environment

    • Supporting children to understand right and wrong and to take responsibility for their actions

    • Exploring ideas of fairness and justice through our curriculum and collective worship

    • Learning how rules and laws help people live well together

    We celebrate diversity and encourage children to understand and respect the world around them.

    This is achieved through:

    • Our Religious Education curriculum, where children learn about a range of faiths and world views

    • Exploring different cultures and traditions through the curriculum

    • Marking important Christian festivals such as Harvest, Christmas and Easter while also learning about other beliefs

    • Encouraging open discussion and curiosity about differences

    Children develop an appreciation of diversity and understand the importance of respect and inclusion.

    🛡️ Safeguarding and care

    Promoting British Values is closely linked to keeping children safe.

    We help pupils to recognise and challenge behaviours or ideas that may be harmful or unfair. Staff are trained to support children in understanding how to stay safe and to seek help when needed.

    🌱 Preparing children for life in modern Britain

    Through our focus on enquiry, community and spirituality, we prepare children to live well together in modern Britain.

    Our aim is that every child leaves East Bergholt CEVC Primary School as a confident, respectful and thoughtful individual who shows compassion towards others and is ready to make a positive difference in the world.
